The purpose of this study is to examine the status of educational barrier-free environment for elementary schools in Taichung city. This observation results can be applied to improve the old and new buildings in elementary campus. The status of educational barrier-free environment for elementary schools is assessed via a checklist study of 61 public elementary schools in Taichung city. The results indicated that 65.6% of school buildings and facilities have met the standards. Middle district has the highest eligible rates (71.6%), and south district has lowest eligible rates (54.4%). In term of barrier-free facilities, the highest eligible rates (81.6%) is 'barrier-free for horizontal movement', and 'barrier-free for entrances' has lowest eligible rates (57.6%).
