Contributing hometown after acquiring high-rank position in the Ming Empire, Lu Shen (1477-1544), bearing praise and proud of his hometown, was considered a grateful native and successful model of political career in Sung-chiang. When mentioned traditional calligraphy achievement in Sung-chiang area, Chi-chang Tung, a famous contemporary calligraphist also born there, often contributed his success to Lu's inspiration and praised Lu's superior moral with respect. Meanwhile, according to Lu's letter to his son, Chi Lu, Lu was no longer a complete devotee and inconsistent with what he formally considered. This paper therefore intends to reveal and compare Lu's image in private (to his families) and in public (remarked by contemporary writers and local history, Sung-chiang-fuchih). Through a closer look, more real attitude of Lu will be presented.
