住民社區居住與生活參與、選擇與自主:以台灣六個團體家庭成年智障者為例

Participation, Choice and Control in Community Living: Six Group Homes Providing Residential Services for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

摘要


本研究目的在探討臺灣六個提供成年智障者團體家庭住民社區居住與生活參與、選擇與自主,親訪96位智障住民。研究發現多數住民認同居住處為他/她的家,來自大型教養機構者多數「不願意」回到以前住的地方;八成到九成住民擁有自己房間、衣櫃、餐具,及置放喜歡的照片和圖畫,餘多數由他人代為決定;住民生活作息仍難逃脫團體生活模式,多數被規定不能自決;六成以上住民喜歡外出參與活動,但住民社會互動對象多數侷限在老師和室友/房友;想結婚、想要有自己小孩者各五成。建議經常給住民機會參與社區活動,更多機會與非障礙者互動,強調智障住民是「家」的主人,重視其生活作息的自由、選擇與自主,減少工作人員的介入。

This study aims to examine the degree of residents' participation, choice and control in their community living at six group homes provided by six residential units for adults with intellectual disabilities in Taiwan. A standardized questionnaire was utilized to collect 96 residents' data. Majority participants recognized ”here” were their ”homes” and responded that they ”like” and ”like very much” ”here”. On the contrary, only small number of participants have been involved in decision making moving to ”here”, home designed and decoration and had the keys of the houses. Less than 20 percent of the participants who could make decision who to live with as their roommates and housemates. Thirty to 70 percent of the participants were free in their routine daily life activities, such as time of getting up, going to bed, listening to music, watching TV, etc. Majority (60%) of the adults responded that they ”love” or ”love very much” to go out for participating activities; ”teachers” and ”roommates/housemates” were most frequently went out with. Nearly 70 percent of the adults would consult their ”teachers” when they were unhappy; 70 percent of adults answered they had good friends and for their ”good friends” mostly means their roommates or housemates. Fifty percent of adults had interaction with the neighbors and 70 percent of adults replied they ”like” their neighbors. Half of adults expressed that they hoped to marry with someone and have their own children. This study recommends the services providers should increase the opportunities for residents to be involved in community activities, utilize community facilities and interact with people Without disability; decrease the staff's control on residents' daily life.
