Getting Something to Drink at Work? The Role of Hand-Shaken Drinks Consumption in the Relationship Between Initial Daily Negative Moods and Subsequent Positive Moods: The Moderating Role of Emotional Stability

"Hand-shaken drink" is trendy and common in Taiwan's workplace; however, studies that explore the correlation between hand-shaken drinks and work mood remain scarce. We explore whether hand-shaken drink consumption helps to elevate employees' mood and examine the moderating roles of emotional stability on the perspective of mood regulation theory. This study employed the experience sampling method to collect daily data twice a day (i.e., 10:00 a.m. and 16:00 p.m.) across five consecutive workdays. Finally, we obtained 350 valid daily data from 139 participants. The results of multilevel path analysis show that: (1) daily initial negative mood increases the consumption of hand-shaken drinks and further enhances daily subsequent positive mood; (2) when the employees' emotional stability is high, the positive correlation between initial negative mood and hand-shaken drink consumption is attenuated; (3) when the employees' emotional stability is high, the positive correlation between hand-shaken drink consumption and subsequent positive mood is attenuated. Theoretical and practical implications are further discussed.
