This article explored the experience of a patient with end-stage renal disease. This qualitative study collected ten patients who underwent hemodialysis in a hospital in southern Taiwan. These patients received an in-depth interview, which was tape-recorded and then analyzed and categorized. The results indicated that the living experiences could be summarized into five categories, including ”suffering form physical symptoms”, ”insufficient energy”, ”depression due to long-term dialysis”, ”isolation due to self-concept impairment”, and ”concluding with the law of causation”. This article provided nurses with a reference for caring hemodialysis patients and an insight in designing intervention studies in the future.
