Nursing Experience for a Trauma Patient with Flail Chest

This report described the experience of caring for a flail chest patient during her stay in intensive care unit. Two major nursing problems were found by Gorden's functional health assessment guide including ineffective breathing pattern and pain. Nursing intervention included active listening, empathy, and support, helping the patient and her family pass through the acute stage of post-trauma and increasing their coping abilities. This experience provided nursing staff with a reference for caring similar patients in the future.
