Several recent improper nursing practices have raised public concerns about nursing education. The author has observed many nursing students nowadays using avoiding strategies when they were facing difficult tasks. This study explored the impact of nursing students avoiding strategies on learning involvement and performance. The sample consisted of 416 students and the data were analyzed by stepwise regression and SEM. The results of this study showed that I Defensive expectation, defensive reflectivity, acquired handicap, and master involvement predicted performance directly. 2. By means of master involvement, defensive reflectivity and acquired handicap predicted performance indirectly. 3. The path model moderately fitted the observed data.
