試論唐宣宗整飭宦官與吏治

唐宣宗盛年即位，在政治上承接了宦官專權與牛李黨爭的歷史包袱，在十餘年間，宣宗巧妙運用皇權，矯正前朝積弊，約束宦官、整肅官箴，讓長期受貪官污吏壓迫的百姓得以蘇息，因此博得「小太宗」的稱號。宣宗深明政風之良窳與吏治息息相關，因此對核心中央官員及地方首長之任命，極為重視，他透過各種管道，積極蒐集並掌握最正確資訊，俾能適時派出最佳人選，賦予牧民重任。唯龐大官僚集團暮氣已深，積重難返；對宦官集團，復無法動搖其根本，加上宣宗晚年漸露倦勤之態，大中之政，及身而止。李唐政權衰頹之勢，遂至不可挽。

Shiuan-Tzung, at middle age, succeeded to the emperorship, and to dominating eunuchs and political clashes between Nious and Lees as well. He strove to rid historical turmoil related, by rearming officers and restraining eunuchs to free people from any unrest and oppression. For such Shiuan-Tzung was honored as ”Tai-Tzung the minor”. Seeing the close relationship between political atmosphere and official systems, Shiuan-Tzung laid much importance on diverse officers' appointment, of central and local governments. Information was collected to make possible the best persons for certain duties and service. Nevertheless, deep-entrenched evils of the grand official systems, especially of the eunuchs', are too difficult to uproot. Shiuan-Tzung's old age also wore him out, thus making declining inevitable.
