從應用角度探討佛教「中道」思想對環境倫理的啟示

摘要

隨著環境問題日益惡化，人們的環保意識漸漸增強。環境管理這一門跨學科的學問，近年亦成為不少高等學府的顯學。環境管理雖涉及多門學科的整合，但學界在討論相關問題時，卻集中在環境科學、工程學和經濟學上，以致我們往往忽視一核心問題：任何的一個環境決策，均涉及人類的價值觀。本文透過實際例子，闡釋傳統佛教「中道」思想在平衡環境保護與經濟發展這一環境倫理的難題上，能為我們帶來什麼啟示。

The issue of environmental protection becomes more popular in modern society. Environmental Management as a key cross-disciplinary subject dealing with the problem is therefore very important in the current higher education. Among various areas within environmental management, ethics gains less attention. In fact, each decision making relates to value judgment. Buddhism is largely considered contributive to the discussion about the issue in the academic world. In this essay, supplemented by actual examples, ”Middle Path” of Buddhism will be discussed and its implication to the environmental ethics as well as environmental management will be evaluated.
