安彼得醫生府城及打狗30年生涯

安彼得醫生（1847-1913）服務台灣約30年，美國或台灣的宗教界或醫界，很少有關安彼得的記錄。從找得到的資料，安醫生1847年出生，1878年離開英國，1879年1月14日安彼得醫生開始在府城醫館服務，一直到1885年返英國休假。1887年10月第二次來台後，安醫生就計畫建新醫館，因為建地的爭執，醫院遲遲不能興建，他監督興建的新醫樓終於在1900年4月17日竣工遷入，以後就稱「新樓醫院」，當時台灣最現代化的醫院之一，如有台灣全台第一台升降機。1901年後新樓醫院，由馬雅各二世醫生主持。安醫生轉赴打狗，資料仍不清楚正確的日期。1906年安醫生帶生病的夫人回美國，12月安醫生夫人逝世，安醫生仍於1907年4月2日自英到打狗服務。1908年5月當馬雅各二世醫生回美國休假，安醫生又與藍大衛醫生共同到新樓醫院幫忙。安彼得醫生曾因身體不適，於1909年4月前往日本休養，5月7日返台。一直到1910年秋天，才退休歸返英國。安醫生總共來台前後31年，1913年3月12日在故鄉Parthshire去世，享年66歲。

Dr. Peter Anderson (1847-1913) served in Southern Taiwan as medical missionary for more than 30 years. However, there was very few information about him in the literature. He probably left England in 1878 and arrived in Tainan in January 1879. He started as medical director of the FusiaN hospital in Tainan on January 14, 1879. After he returned from a furlough in October 1887, he planned to build a new hospital. Because of the dispute with the owner of the land, the new Sinlau Hospital which literally meant New Building Hospital was finally finished under his supervision in April 1900. It was one of the most modern hospitals in Taiwan then. When Dr. James Maxwell, Jr. came to Tainan in 1901, Dr. Maxwell became the new Director of the Hospital and Dr. Anderson moved to Takau to start a new service there. The literature was very contradictory during this period, we still did not know the exact time he served in Takau.When Mrs Anderson was ill in 1906, they moved back to England. She passed away in December 1906. Dr. Anderson came to Takau again in April 1907. He and Dr. David Landsborough helped to continue the medical service in Tainan when Dr. Maxwell took a furlough in May, 1908. There was a record that he went to Japan because of illness in April to May, 1909. He retired and moved back to England in Fall, 1910. He later died in Parthshire on March 12, 1913 at the age of 66.
