This work suggests an interval arithmetic based algorithm to solve the fuzzy multiple criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) problem. In the proposed method, the ratings of alternatives under different criteria and the importance weights of the criteria are firstly transformed into a comparable scale. Secondly, the membership function of the aggregation of the transformed ratings and transformed importance weights for each alternative is developed by using interval arithmetic and α-cuts of fuzzy numbers. A ranking method can then be easily applied to order all the final fuzzy numbers. The proposed method enhances the applicability of fuzzy set theory to the ill-defined MCDM problems. A numerical example demonstrates the computational process of the proposed method.
