A New Hybrid Broadcasting Scheme with Low Buffer Requirement for Users with Limited Bandwidth

摘要


針對熱門的影片,廣播方法是一種能有效利用頻寬的方法。藉由混合Fibonacci與interleaving staircase兩方法,本論文提出一個稱為FIS的混合方法,運用於傳送CBR-encoded的影片。此FIS方法可提供服務給頻寬只有兩倍影片消耗率的用戶,使得該用戶接收觀賞影片並不會中斷。用戶端暫存空間需求只需約略整部影片檔案大小20%的暫存空間。相較先前的Fibonacci與FS方法,FIS方法分別可以比它們省下50%與27%的暫存空間需求,另外在最大的等待時間上也是非常接近Fibonacci與FS方法所需的等待時間。

The broadcast method is an efficient approach to deliver a hot video for utilizing bandwidth. By combining the Fibonacci and interleaving staircase methods, this paper presents a new hybrid broadcasting method, called FIS method, to deliver a CBR-encoded video. The FIS method provides that users only use a bandwidth of double of the consumption rate to download and watch a CBR-encoded video without break. The buffer requirement of the proposed method is near 20% of the size of whole video. Compared with the Fibonacci and FS methods, the FIS method reduces the buffer requirement by about 50% and 27%, respectively, while maintains very close maximum wait time.
