與全球孩子同行－論《天堂小店》對青少年公民教育的意義

本文旨在探討翻譯為中文的世界文學對公民教育的意義。《天堂小店》這本青少年文學作品揭示非洲國家馬拉威的愛滋病禍。其中，我們看到主角在逆境中成長，以及人面對困難時候的勇氣與美善品格。本文認為這樣的作品令青少年學生更多認識自己、懂得和別人相處，也學會關心本土社區與世界大事。翻譯文學能夠擴闊學生視野與思考角度，令他們多些認識不同文化，並且對世間的不幸懷抱憐憫之情。本文期望閱讀與討論《天堂小店》這類優秀文學作品，能夠培養學生多層次的理想公民特質，那是說不但瞭解公民知識、德行，也因受文學力量的薰陶與自我不斷反思，而確切付諸行動，願意真誠關懷別人。這就是與全球孩子同行的世界公民意識了。

This article aims at exploring the significance of world literature, which has been translated into Chinese, to civic education. The Heaven Shop, a literary work written for youth, reveals the calamities caused by HIV in an African country called Malawi. We can see how the leading character has become mature in time of adversity and the courage of people when they face difficulties. The article discusses how this kind of work can enhance teenage students' understanding about themselves as well as their ability to get along with others. Through the work, they also learn to care about the local community and major issues in the world. Translation literature can broaden students' horizons and scope of thinking, so as to make them understand better different cultures and sensitive to the misfortunes in the world. It is expected that through reading distinguished literature such as The Heaven Shop, students could be assisted in developing a multi-dimensional citizenship. That is to say, they have not only acquired the knowledge and morals of citizenship, but have also put them into practice and been willing to care about others with sincerity, because of the inspiration of literature and constant self-reflection. Such a learning experience is exactly the essence of global citizenship, which is to care for the children all over the world.
