The purpose of this study is to investigate current status of textbook selection for the elementary schools in Taiwan and to analyze the phenomenon and causality of textbook selection problems in three aspects: technical, economic and political From the study, seven suggestions are given for improvement: (a)designing a practical, feasible model for textbook selection, (b)allowing each school to determining its own selection system, (c)involving more people to participate in textbook selection, and establishing a formal hearing for school textbook selection, (d)establishing a reward system for excellent textbook publisher, (e)establishing textbook information and consultancy system, (f)implementing workshop and evaluation program for textbook selection, and (g)improving textbook censorship.
