Deep venous thromboembolism is an uncommon complication during the perinatal period, so post-partum deep venous thromboembolism is not considered clinically significant, but it causes quite mortality. Emergency physicians should be alert to the possibility of deep venous thromboembolism. In Chinese societies, postpartum women undergo a traditional regimen for postpartum care and often ingest Chinese herbal medicines. We discuss a patient receiving traditional Chinese postpartum care after a Cesarean section who presented to our emergency department with acute gastroenteritis, but was finally diagnosed with deep venous thromboembolism.
