This paper states the tasks and the preliminary findings of the survey which is conducted based on the first stage of a cooperative research project between Russian and Taiwan universities. This research project aims to reveal the possible impacts of the national and cultural characteristics of the university students in Taiwan on the Russian language learning, and also to elaborate the effective suggestions to enhance the performance of Russian language teaching in Taiwan. This paper focuses on the analysis of the motivations of studying Russian and attitudes toward Russian language as a studying subject of the said students.
