The Olympic Movement and Taiwan Nationalism: Rethinking the Relationship between Sports and Politics

摘要

本文主要的目的是利用國族意識形態作為中介因子，探討奧林匹克活動與政治之間的關係。運動與國家政策、國家關係、意識形態等議題之間的關係已受到廣泛的討論。意識形態或政治立場介入運動競賽，經常使得單純的賽事，變為強權、集團或大國謀略角力的舞台。在台灣這塊土地上不斷上演著中國國族主義與台灣國族主義之爭，而這樣的爭論也影響到運動文化。本研究利用文獻分析法，針對2004 年陳詩欣赴中國大陸任教事件，以及2007年拒絕聖火來台事件的分析中，發現台灣國族意識形態主導了執政當局對事件的態度。然而，進一步分析與反思後發現奧林匹克活動本身即是政治的產物，它間接地助長了參與國的國族主義意識形態。

This study usesd national ideologies as an intermediary factor to explore the relationship between the Olympic movement and politics. Studies of sporting and domestic government policies, international relations and political ideologies are now quite common. In Taiwan, the China-nationalism and Taiwan-nationalism controversy has been ceaselessly discussed and both parties have affected the sports culture. This study utilized the documentary analysis to take two events as example, including Chen Shih-hsin who went to Shanghai Qingpu Martial Arts Institute to coach in 2004 and Taiwan government's rejection of the 2008 Beijing Olympic flame in 2007. After analyzing and rethinking, however, this study found that the Olympic movement itself was a political product that contributed to the growth of national ideologies.
