The systematic promotion and establishment of living handcraft in Taiwan started in Japanese occupation period. Due to the recent promotion of community development and management and lifelong learning, the local living handcraft is back to the spotlight again. Among many living crafts that start from the needs of living and aesthetic, leather art is an art that uses pliable, extendable, breathable, hydrophilic and variable thickness characteristics of leather to create a living handcraft which is beautiful and practical. There are a lot of existing books about techniques of leather art; however, there are very few documents about the current promotion of leather art. This paper will describe the current promotion of living handcraft in Taiwan through the current promotion of leather art in different aspects such as Adult Education, Local Industries, Occupational Therapy or Campus Promotion.
