Examining the Relationship between Knowledge Management and Organizational Performance by Using TQM/ISO/Hospital Alliance

How a hospital adopting appropriate managerial methods pursues higher level of quality performance is a valuable issue. The paper aims to examine both suitability and effectiveness of quality managerial methods (QMMs) adopted by using the principles of knowledge management. The purpose of this study is to realize the impact of different managerial methods on knowledge generation within an organization and whether knowledge management influences quality performance level. The research instrument used a questionnaire, which assumed that knowledge management is composed of three parts namely acquisition, accumulation and sharing knowledge. The three different managerial methods known as total quality management TQM/ISO certification/strategy alliance SA and compare the differences when implementation the three methods through the knowledge management in a public hospital in Taiwan. The methodology of measurement was used SPSS statistical software by principal component factor analysis and t test for a case study, which was conducted at Ping-Tung hospital in Taiwan. This study found that managers of hospitals could not only use knowledge management to examine the appropriateness of the methods to meet hospital's requirement, but also evaluate the effectiveness of methods adopted and the degree to which align with organization needs. The discussion of the result will argue that the different managerial methods, TQM/ISO/SA all act as enablers for an organizations continuous improvement. The knowledge management is a processor to deal with different methods under the same process however different methods are implemented. The result of this study is that the empirical hospital's TQM performance is the best, ISO is the second best, and strategy alliance is the least effective. The contribution is to submit a quality management triad for a hospital to examine effectiveness, appropriateness, and predicting of QMMs using the process of knowledge management.
