Intestinal helminthic infections are rarely seen in Taiwan, as the control of helminthic infection has been achieved in many communities. Here, we describe a foreign bride from Mainland China who was diagnosed to have Trichuris trichiura infection based on incidental findings in colonoscopic evaluation and the patient's gastrointestinal symptoms. However, ova of the worm were not seen in her stool samples before endoscopy was performed. Considering that helminthic infections still exist in Mainland China and South East Asia, the increasing number of immigrants and travelers would have chance to bring them into Taiwan. It is suggested that clinicians should consider parasitic infection as a possible differential diagnosis in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms.
