The joys of parenthood are great, but the transition can be overwhelming especially for new fathers. This study follows the actual experiences of seven fathers as they face the challenges of their new role and is based on qualitative research methods of process recording. Information was gained through interviews made by the primary care nurse in attendance throughout la-bar and delivery up until the third month f01lowing hospital discharge. Results center on five topic themes: ”the father's satisfaction with the successful pregnancy,” ”his ecstasy over an uncomplicated delivery,” ”his delights and concerns regarding fatherhood,” ”his nurturing paternal instincts,” and ”his positive participation in child development.” The study illustrates the importance of family-centered nursing that begings with pre-natal care and continues well after mother, father and baby have gone home.
