主體性的風險-對臺灣人本主義教育的質疑

Risk of Subjectivity: A Critique on Humanistic Education in Taiwan

摘要


雖然終極而言人本主義可能是值得擁抱的理想,但這並不表示當下體現人本主義價值、當下實踐個人主體性,必然會帶來美好的果實。有關主體性的論述還有許多待釐清的地方:如何處理可能的主體衝突?如何滿足主體條件?如何避免抑制其他價值的實現?如何選擇適當的途徑? 臺灣教育需要改革,「人本教育」也有其一定程度的號召力。但我們還是要謹慎,不宜過於信賴模糊的好感。主體性的積極建構其實需要條件,有些條件可能帶有限制主體的性質。具體而言,自律有賴於他律,而他律卻可能意味著限制主體性。某些基督教的倫理與超越性上帝的概念也可能是人昇華的重要助力。反之,傳統中國社會雖然曾長期存在人本主義思潮,也有道德主體性的主流論述,但是中國較欠缺與公共規範相應的自律及超越信仰所促成的內在統一性。在這樣的社會基礎上,對以主體性論述為核心的人本主義教育的強調是否能帶來美好的改革結果,不免令人疑慮。

It might be desirable to hold the ideal of Humanism. However, it does not necessarily yield good results if we realize humanistic values or fulfill subjectivity immediately. The issue of subjectivity now still waits to be cleared up. Humanistic education has its attraction. But we have to be careful. To fulfill subjectivity needs some conditions. Paradoxically, some of the conditions may relate to the narrowing and the limiting of the subjectivity. Self-discipline depends on other-discipline, and other-discipline may refer to limiting subjectivity. By the way, Christian's ethics and the concept of transcendental God may be important to help promote People's spiritual level and construct a subject in fuller meaning. There used to be some kind of humanistic thought in traditional Chinese society, and moral subjectivity used to be a mainstream issue in it. However, China used to lack of self-discipline on public norms, and of inner unity promoted by transcendental beliefs. On the basis of this kind of social traditions, we worry about the results of humanistic education with subjectivity issue as its heart.
