台灣金融控股組織對銀行效率之影響

摘要

本研究主要探討加入金控組織對銀行效率之影響，然而過去文獻指出選擇加入金控組織的銀行通常具備某些特性，為避免加入金控組織變數的內生性問題影響實證估計的結果，我們利用兩階段估計方法(two-stage estimation methods)檢驗加入金控組織對銀行效率之影響。本研究之實證結果顯示，目前金控組織對銀行的經營效率為顯著的負相關，推論其原因可能為金控銀行因併購所產生的組織複雜化，導致難以控制的代理成本等問題，致使其相對於非金控銀行並未有較優異之效率表現。此外，本研究另以銀行員工產值替代DEA效率值及考慮銀行加入金控存續期間對本實證模型進行敏感性分析。結果顯示加入金控對員工產值有正向的顯著影響；而考慮銀行加入金控存續期間後，結果指出加入金融控股組織對銀行的相對效率值仍為顯著負相關。

The objective of the study is to examine the impact of joining Financial Holding Company (FHC) on bank efficiency. We account for the endogeneity of joining FHC and use the two-stage method to examine the effect of joining FHC. Our results suggest that banks joining FHC are on average less efficient than banks without joining FHC. It indicates that the consolidation may increase organization's complexity and agency costs. Therefore, banks joining FHC are not more efficient. In addition, we also conducted several sensitivity tests. First, the labor productivity was used to measure the bank performance instead of efficiency. We found that banks joining FHC have higher labor productivity than banks without joining FHC. Second, we also incorporate duration of joining FHC in the model. The results still indicated that banks joining FHC are less efficient than banks without joining FHC.
