The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-confidence and frontal electroencephalographic (EEG) asymmetry. Five hundred and forty high school and college athlete-students were recruited as the participants in the first stage. The high and low self-confidence groups, 20 participants each group, were identified by using the self-confidence subscale of the Athletic Psychological Skills Inventory (APSI). In the second stage, a 6-minute resting EEG was collected from each member of these two groups for two sessions. Results showed that there was no significant difference in frontal EEG asymmetry between the high and low self-confidence groups. The findings revealed little support to the relationship between self-confidence and EEG asymmetry. Future research should explore this relationship by utilizing other different samples.
