The purpose of the present study is to examine the influences of traditional media and the internet on voters' images and evaluations of candidates during the mayoral elections of Taipei and Kaohsiung in 2005. The ”2006 Taiwan's Election and Democratization Study” (TEDS 2006) survey data were employed to compare the effects of various communication forms during the election. After controlling for respondents' demographic characteristics and political orientations, the results indicate that traditional media, especially television, exert the greatest influence on voters' images and evaluations of candidates, whereas the Internet exert no significant influence on the perceptions of voters. Directions for future research are also discussed.
