Pope Benedict XVI (Josef Ratzinger) was born in Germany. He pays much attention to submission to the truth and shows a determined attitude, and loyal obedience to his faith, especially to the Church and her teachings, as he faces the dangers posed by other cultures. He has raised a serious warning against becoming hypnotized by the lure of other cultures. Many theologians advocate religious pluralism as they think orthopraxis can bring about harmonious relationships among different religions. Ratzinger, however, thinks that dialogue between different religions without Christ’s faith and forgiveness would only result in a discussion of the essential characteristics of cooperation. This is not enough and, he believes, would tend towards degeneration. Ecumenism is a movement which tries to respect the beliefs of others. In dialogue, Ratzinger firmly stands on the one and only Church and its universal salvation. This paper discusses Ratzinger's handling of some theologians so as to understand how he relates to other Christian bodies and how he talks and dialogues with non-Christian religions.
