This paper examines the records of Lin Pi (林圮) and Lin Pi PU (林圮埔) in ten local chronicles and two collections of contracts. An analytical synthesis of records in the past four hundred years shows eight characters denoting Pi (圮): Ji (驥), (王冀), Ji (既), Si (汜), Pi (圮), (土已), Yi (圯), and Qi (屺). There is also a ninth character in fake contracts: Qi (杞). Judging from the length of time they have been adopted, and from the extent they are close to the original pronunciation of ”Ji (驥), (土已), and Ji (既), ” the character Pi (圮) with ji (己) is the most accurate. However, negligence on the part of the scribe could cause the appearance ofYi (圯) or (土已).
