The fast development of medical technologies has not changed the malnutrition rate among the hospitalized patients because the importance of nutrition support has been ignored. Researches showed that the impact of malnutrition has caused patients to develop complications, extended hospital stay, slow recovery, and increasement of medical expense. The first step of nutrition care is to do the screening procedure. The nurses are the frontier of care provider, and they spend more time with patients than others in the hospitals. The article aims to introduce the definition, process, methods, and tools of nutrition screening of nutrition screening for hospitalized patients. It is hoped to increase nurses' knowledge in nutrition screening, and furthermore to identify the high risk malnutrition patients. Also, this article expects nurses can be served as a bridge between doctors and dietitians for the purpose of benefiting early stage of nutrition care, regular nutrition value check, and improving the quality of nutrition care.
