Dyspnea is a common clinical problem and uncomfortable feeling to patients. It results in physical, psychological and behavioral changes. Moreover, it affects the quality of life, emotion, and activities. As far, most studies focus on management and assessment of dyspnea without systematically analyzing the concept. According to the methodology of concept analysis by Walker and Avent (1995), this article assured the definition and characteristics of dyspnea and provided examples and empirical measurements. As a result, nurses may understand the concept of dyspnea and exercise the concept to clinical practices.
