世說新語與極短篇小說之關係研究

摘要

《世說新語》為志人小說重要的代表，其記事新奇風趣；記人則生動活潑，吸引了廣大的讀者，使它成為雅俗共賞的經典之作，並因後世眾多的模仿續作，遂將這種依內容分門類的文體風格稱為「世說體」。其簡短精要的篇幅，深富餘蘊的故事，和現代極短篇小說在形式上及內容上，都十分接近，於是筆者嘗試從形式上具有的極短篇特徵，和內容上蘊含的極短篇特色，兩方面來說明《世說》與極短篇小說的相通之處。極短篇小說顧名思義，在形式上必定篇幅短小，用字簡鍊，而言辭優美更為極短篇小說作者費盡心力所欲追求的目標。《世說》除了形式上的極短篇特徵外，更重要的則是情節的驚奇曲折，且又合理有意境；語言的深刻動人，而有種種不同的類型；甚至連不被傳統所重視的女性和奴僕，都有傑出不凡的表現。

Shi Shuo Shin Yu is one of the most significant and representative novels in the Six Dynasties era. Its narration abounds with novelty and fascination, its characterization vividness and vigor. The form and content of Shi Shuo Xin Yu, due to its conciseness and haunting story, resembles modern flash fiction. Flash fiction is required to be short in content and concise in wording, and also, authors of flash fiction endeavor to refine their language as well as expressions. Despite the resemblance to flash fiction, three distinguishing features can be found in Shi Shuo Xin Yu. First of all, the plot is intriguing and surprising, while maintaing its rationality and imagery. Another feature is the use of language. A language of moving profundity can be most appropriate to deliver a representation of the protagonist's image in a variety of facets. Diverse Characterization depicts the third feature. In Shi Shuo Xin Yu, characters that are frequently ignored in traditional works, such as women and servants, are brought onto stage with magnificence.
