The unit of analysis of most research on the Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) is either each individual state or its government and decision maker. This article tries to explore the role of citizens of democratic countries in the DPT. At first it reviews relevant literature to find out the citizens' role. Then, by deriving the reasons why citizens of a democracy oppose wars, the article establishes the connection between individual citizens and democratic peace. Finally, a regression analysis on the Taiwan-China dyad is conducted for a preliminary test on this citizen-level democratic peace theory.
