In 1981, the first case of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) was reported. Thirty years later, there is still a paucity of highly efficient prevention methods. Several important HIV prevention strategies, including prevention of mother-to-child transmission, harm reduction programs, condom campaigns, male circumcision, treatment as prevention, and pre-exposure prophylaxis were reviewed in this report.
