As the rise of convenience stores and shopping malls in recent years, the suppliers deliver the goods to retailers directly by distribution centers in the domestic markets. Through the distribution centers, enterprises can save more inventory cost and delivering time. The logistics cost is a major cost of total production cost, and the order picking cost can be considered to be the most important cost of logistics cost. This study solves the order picking problems in a traditional warehouse of the distribution center through ant colony optimization (ACO), and then compared with the traditional picking tours based on the Z-traversal strategy. The results reveal that the ACO can reduce the picking tour distances and the operation time significantly, thus the operation efficiency and service level can be improved in a traditional warehouse of the distribution center.
