Where the Dragon Meets the Angry River: Conservation on the Edge in Yunnan

As China continues its rapid global emergence, what are the consequences for its ecosystems, native biodiversity, and ethnic minority peoples? And how will China's rise impact the rest of the world? Spotlighting conservation issues in the Nu River watershed in Yunnan Province in southwest China, I show how current conservation and hydropower controversies provide insight into the importance of biocultural protection within the overall process of technological development in the People's Republic of China.
