Self-Monitoring of Blood Glucose by Wearable Devices in Prediabetes Patients

Objective: Glucose levels of prediabetes patients may return to normal through active diet control and lifestyle changes. This study aimed to investigate whether combined wearable devices and APP can help prediabetes patients to achieve a better glycemic control. Methods: To compare whether prediabetes patients in wearable devices with APP group achieve a better blood glucose lowering effects compared with manual blood sugar diary group and control group after SMBG intervention. Results: After 3 months of SMBG intervention, the blood glucose reduced by an average of 6.8 mg/dL in wearable devices and APP group (p = 0.003), 1.29 mg/dL in diary group, and 3.51 mg/dL in the control group (p = 0.047). For HbA1C, the reduction in diary group was significant and performed better than others (p = 0.009). Conclusion: The results showed that effect of "reducing the FBG to 100 mg/dL" was slightly better by using wearable devices with APP than by using handwritten diary and control methods.
