Neurofeedback is a mental training tool that has been used to enhance individual's control of brain activity. Clinical studies have proven the effectiveness of neurofeedback training on ameliorating the symptoms of epilepsy, attention deficit, and alcoholic addiction. A similar effect also has been found on improving the cognitive performance of the ordinary population. Based on these findings, some sport psychologists have applied neurofeedback training to the enhancement of sport performance. This article reviews studies of neurofeedback training on sport performance to facilitate the understanding of its effects and potential application in the enhancement of sport performance. Lastly, some suggestions for future research are proposed.
