腦電刺激在運動與認知神經科學之應用

The Applications of Brain Stimulation in Exercise and Cognitive Neuroscience

摘要


如何使我們的大腦變聰明?當代認知神經科學領域已開始致力於探索如何促進大腦認知功能,許多研究已發現透過適當的行為介入(如:認知或運動訓練等方式)可以達到提升認知的效果,除此之外,近期的研究也發現透過腦電刺激技術例如:跨髗直流電刺激(transcranial direct current stimulation, tDCS),可以有效地刺激大腦活動以調節認知表現。有趣的是,結合腦電刺激與認知訓練能得到較大的認知促進效果,其機制可能是腦電刺激可以激活大腦皮質的興奮性,以提高大腦學習的可塑性。有鑒於現今的研究發現,本文重點聚焦於討論腦電刺激在運動與認知神經科學之可能應用,並提出未來研究之可行方向,同時也期盼本文能提供未來實務與理論之助益。

Can you make yourself smarter? Current cognitive neuroscience scientists have tried to explore and develop approaches for enhancing brain and cognitive functioning. There is increasing evidence that certain behavioral interventions such as cognitive or sport training may be effective for cognitive enhancement. In addition, recent findings have also shown that brain stimulation techniques (e.g., transcranial direct current stimulation, tDCS) have the capacity to modulate cognitive performance via changing cortical activities. Interestingly, the utility of combining propitious interventions such as tDCS and cognitive training seems to possibly maximize cognitive improvement. The plausible mechanism is that brain stimulation might increase brain plasticity for learning through activating cortical excitability. Accordingly, the present article primarily focused on the potential applications of brain stimulation in exercise and cognitive neuroscience and we also proposed some promising ideas for future research. It is also our wish that this knowledge would provide practical and theoretical benefits.
