論生死學在通識教育中的地位

On the Importance of Life-and-Death Studies in General Education

摘要


生死學是一門新興的學問,它是傅偉勳先生在現今西方死亡學及死亡教育的基礎上,融入了較多的哲學、宗教學、意義治療學等成分,所構思出來的一套學思並重、知行合一的實踐智慧學。傅先生所欲建構的生死學更因為重視生命主體的實存性,並且相信生命本身除了能夠關懷現實以成就文化外,亦可以以其超越的意識而體現終極的關懷與終極的真實,所以鮮明烙印著心性本位之東方思想的色彩。生死學在台灣已然形成氣候,傅先生的揭竿而起固然具有關鍵的作用,但是相關學者的積極參與和持續努力更是功不可沒。生死學所探討的議題,包括了人之死前生後的種種情境,此乃形成一種整全統一的思維。又生死學以其對生命的全向度關照,恰與台灣各大學校院所戮力推展的通識教育,可謂目標一致、理想相同,因此它在通識教育中的地位,絕對是正當而合理的。

As a new emerging academic discipline, life-and-death studies had been conceptualized by Mr. Fu Wei-shuen. Based on the Studies of death and dying and the education of Thanatology in western world, life-and-death studies, combing such components as: philosophy, religion studies and logo therapy, is a practical study of wisdom with its focus on learning and thinking as well as knowing and doing. By emphasizing on the existence of life itself, Mr. Fu strongly believe that life can realize its ultimate care and ultimate Reality by the transcendental consciousness besides culture achievement through caring of the world. As such, we witness a colorful oriental way of thinking founded on mind-nature imprinted vividly throughout the life-and-death studies. Rooted in the soil of the island, life-and-death studies has already gained its popularity in Taiwan. The revolutionary initiation of Mr. Fu had played a crucial part in this of course, but the active participation and continuous effort of related scholars had also contributed a lot. Various issues such as situations occurring between birth and death covered by life-and-death studies has constituted into an integrated and unified system of thinking. In addition, the intensive care of human life as a whole embraced by life-and-death studies conforms also with the goal and ideal of general education promoted arduously by various colleges and universities. The position that life-and-death studies has established itself in the arena of general education can thus be absolutely justified.
