Mr. Chi-Chiuan Chen was a famous calligraphy artist of Taiwan in the modern time .He was born in 1917 and died in 2003.His birthplace was Feng-Shuen, Guang-Dung Province. His style name was Chi-Chuai. He was a master of calligraphy. When he was young, he graduated from Han-Shan Education Middle School. And when the war between China and Japan broke out, he joined the armed forces. In 1949, he followed the R.O.C. government to retreat to Taiwan. He retired from the armed forces and from being a civil servant in 1977. Then, he taught calligraphy with all his heart for the rest of his life. He had thousands of students all over the world, and these students also become calligraphy artists now. This paper mainly studies and researches the concepts of calligraphy arts about Mr. Chi-Chiuan Chen. My research results are summarized as follows: Mr. Chen thought morality is the way to cultivate a professional artist. He believed that the fine arts can bring morality to people and improve the society. So he emphasized more on the good behavior than on the good skill. Mr. Chen dedicated his whole life to the calligraphy education. That is the reason why he enjoyed good reputation. Chen's brushwork is clear, strong, beautiful, steady, and melodious. The structure of the characters is stable and dense, and the ink is thick and moist. All of these advantages come from Mr. Chen's deep absorption in the ancients store. His calligraphy arts can be traced back to the Eastern Tsin dynasty, during the time of the great writer Wang Shi-jr. Chinese calligraphy occupies a very special place in the world art, and its historical development has been quite different from that of the Western Writing. The Chinese artist chooses special subject matter and uses special materials and special techniques. For most people that is a hard work for the calligraphy arts to learn.
