The main purpose of this study was to discuss the principle of pole vaulting pole selection in training and competition. The conclusions were as followed: 1. High school beginner should use shorter pole to start the training. 2. The beginner should use shorter run up distance for technical training. 3. The beginner should select the weight of the pole in accordance to his or her own body weight. 4. The coach should set up the distance of standards at 80 center meters behind the back of the planting box to encourage vaulters hit the take-off. 5. During competition, the vaulters should select pole and make adjustment according to the result of previous attempt.
