The effects of agro-industrial by-products as alternative medium on growth and flowering quality of pottedOncosteleWildcat 'Purple Fairy' were investigated. Plants of 'Purple Fairy' were cultivated with sevenagro-industrial by-products, which were stone, rockwool, natural fiber reinforced composites, porous ceramics, coir, poly lactic acid, and rope. The results showed that rockwool and porous ceramic were better than other growing medium for growth, especially on the pseudobulbs thickness, diameter and leaf area of pottedOns. Wildcat 'Purple Fairy'. Rockwool was the best medium for flower quality, which significantly increased length of flower-stalk and inflorescence, number of floret branches and floret number, followed by porous ceramics as medium. Considering the production cost, porous ceramic was a salvaged material during tile manufacturing. The characteristics of lightweight, environment friendly, local production, and lower cost make it a potential alternative medium for Oncostele cultivation.
