This article describes the nursing experience of a patient with recurrent cerebrovascular accident. The period of nursing care was from January 15th to January 28th, 2010. The Gordon's functional health pattern assessment was used to collect data through observation, interviews, and physical examinations. Three health-related problems were identified as imbalanced nutrition: more than body requirements, impaired physical mobility, and powerlessness. The author instructed the patient and family regarding food choices and calorie control principles for weight management, and assisted this patient in implementing rehabilitation exercises for increasing muscle power and maintaining body balance. The patient was also taught about the etiology, progression, and prognosis of a cerebrovascular accident in order to rebuild an autonomous lifestyle and lessen feelings of powerlessness. We suggest that in the future cerebrovascular accident case managers could be assigned to such cases, so as to monitor medication utilization, rehabilitation, and dietary status, efforts which could reduce the recurrence rate.
