The use of computer technology in education has evolved from Computer-Aided Instruction (CAI) to Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and eventually to Web-based learning. Increasingly, teachers integrate the use of Internet in second language teaching and acquisition. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Web-enhanced Instruction (WEI) in the freshman reading class and the students' overall evaluation in terms of the appropriateness of the content, the design of each section, impact of WEI, and students' perception of WEI in future learning. The methods used in the data collection included questionnaire, interview, and class observations. The results indicated that the majority of the students showed a positive attitude toward the application of WEI in language learning. This paper would address the concerns and difficulties encountered by the teachers and students while pursuing WEI in language learning and provide some suggestions to improve the effectiveness of online learning.
