A Survey of Kindergarten Teachers' Supervising Style Preferences

In view of the scarcity of teachers supervising preference studies in Taiwan, this research was conducted among a sample of private kindergarten teachers working at different schools in Taichung City in Taiwan. A quantitative method was used to collect data for this study. The objectives of the study were to find the demographic profile of the working experience of these teachers, the information regarding supervising preference-directive control, indirective-information, nondirective interpersonal, or collaborative interpersonal supervisory style-on curriculum design, on purchasing new workbooks or material, on how to communicate with parents and creating proper learning climate, and on pedagogical strategies. This research revealed that teachers having three or more years of teaching experience have a higher preference over the collaborative interpersonal approach than those teachers with less than three years of teaching experience. In contrast, those teachers with less than three years of teaching experience have a high tendency to favor the direct supervisory style.
