True understanding of a foreign language can not be achieved without at least some understanding of the cultural context in which the language is used. Therefore, an understanding of the different cultures is mandated as one of the objectives of English teaching in Taiwan. This study attempts to find out the practices of holiday culture teaching across different grade levels. Questionnaires and personal interviews with elementary English teachers in Taipei City were conducted in the study. Findings include the preferred Anglo-American holiday topics, Chinese holiday topics, teaching techniques, and difficulties encountered. The findings and conclusions are then presented with suggestions.
