Expected Attributes of Lecturer's Quality from Student's Perspective - An Empirical Case of Lac Hong University

Over the past few years, several universities in Vietnam have considered students' evaluation and satisfaction as the main tool in measuring the quality of their lecturers. However, no standard evaluation approach has been proposed. Therefore, in this paper, based on students' evaluation on some vital attributes, a quantitative approach to measure the lecturers' quality is suggested. An empirical case of Lac Hong University was investigated as a typical example to illustrate the practical applicability of our proposed approach. It was found that the quality of lecturers in higher education can be measured from seven key expected attributes, including (1) sociability, (2) knowledge and teaching skills, (3) practicalities, (4) enthusiasm and help, (5) professional working styles, (6) inspiration and encouragement, and (7) performance evaluation. The appropriate measures were found in-line with some cited literature and references; hence, it is strongly suggested that other educational institutions use our proposed approach as a useful tool to effectively and efficiently measure the quality of their lecturers to have better and comparable evaluation system. The importance of each attribute was also identified and clearly explained from both practical and educational points of view, providing numerical basics for the relevant board of management of the institution to induce proper strategies in improving the quality of their lecturers in order to make their students satisfied. However, depending on the practical situation, the importance of each of the proposed attributes may be varied among different institutions.
