This paper provides a review that looks into studies on the issue of translation and interpretation across diverse disciplines of linguistics, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. This review aims to bridge the gap between research on professional translation/interpretation and empirical data obtained from methods of cognitive neuroscience, and to increase awareness about the complexities of research on translation and interpretation. Questions regarding the interaction between either translation or interpretation and other research fields are raised. This introduction to the interactions among research fields shall shed some light on future directions on cross-disciplinary research between translation/interpretation and other fields.
