Based on what has been done during our compilation of the Americans-based Chinese Teaching Material AP, this paper summarizes the features in American Chinese language teaching, particularly those concerning the Chinese course AP and offers a profound analysis for The 21th Century Foreign Language Learning Criteria and its relevant task-based teaching conception, which are being pushed forward in the U.S.. We’ve noted that some significant differences between the Chinese teaching in the U.S. high school and the foreign students-oriented Chinese teaching in China occur in many aspects like teaching conception, teaching methods, curriculum setup and curriculum content. Only if importance is attached to the differences and the U.S. Chinese teaching's conception and practice are really understood can we compile the useful teaching materials which fit well with the Americans. In addition, this article introduces some details during the compiling to illustrate the principles we abide by in the project.
