It is a development that ”language skills+culture” has replaced pure language skills teaching in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL), which is at present the mainstream of TCSL in the Mainland. With Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century as the guiding principle of curriculum and exam design, AP Chinese Language and Culture Course recently promoted by the College Board, USA has put the culture issue to the level higher than ever before, which has given us enlightenment in our research.
