Finding Optimal Scanning Height and Speed for a Prusa-i3 Based Laser Carving System

摘要

Within recent years, the maker movement is so popular everywhere in the world. The makers like to develop their own designs by utilizing low cost machines to build their works, especially open-source 3D printers. 3D printers are the machines based on additive manufacturing technology. Although they have an excellent capability of building complicated geometrical parts, unfortunately they can not cover all of manufacturing tasks. Due to this fact, a 3D printer associated with Laser carving was developed for allowing makers to have one machine with both of additive and subtractive manufacturing. This study would like continue the work in improving the integrated machine. The working height and scanning speed are two key parameters of controlling the quality of Laser carving. This paper focuses on utilizing auto-bed-leveling system of 3D printer to install an optimal working height of Laser carving. In addition, the optimal scanning speed is also be discussed in this paper.
